Day 43 - Friends and Movies

Things here are always interesting. As I got in my car and headed up the driveway this morning crossing the street were 3 deer. They were going to the neighbor's yard. Apparently we had a visiting cat from that house over night and as I was pulling towards the mailbox this cat decided to make a break for it and run across the road, up the hill, through the neighbor's yard (right in front of the deer) and over their bushes onto their patio.  The deer apparently thought the cat wanted to play. One of the deer took off after the cat, jumped the hedges and ended up on the patio looking for the cat. I don't know if it ever caught the cat or not.

Today Gretchen had planned on going and visiting with a lady she met at church a few weeks ago that has 4 kids.  So they all got together and seemed to have a great time.  Believe it or not now Gretchen has went to finding friends with family names. This lady's name was Irene which is also Gretchen's aunt's name.  However, she is not anywhere near the same age (Aunt Irene is 86).  The Helena Irene has a 16 yr old daughter, 15 yr old son, 13 yr old daughter and a 6 yr old daughter.  Her husband is one of the associate pastors at one of the churches we have visited.

By about 5 we determined we probably shouldn't go camping. So since all the kids met their reading goals for June we took them to the movies.  Brave and The Amazing Spiderman were our picks. Gretchen and Christina went to Brave and the rest of us went to Spiderman. Both ended up being 3-D movies which I am not seeing that it is worth the extra money for. However, it was worth watching Caleb/Joshua sitting sided by side with their cool 3-D glasses on and their arms crossed. Since they were wearing dark colors they looked a lot like either the Men in Black or the Blues Brothers.    By the time we got home Christina was in bed so we didn't get to hear her rendition of Brave. However, Gretchen got to get 4 renditions of Spiderman all at the same time.  One of the joys of a large family is that everyone seems to want to talk at the same time.  It's just hard to split your ears 4 or 5 ways.

Apparently while we were still at the movie and after Christina went to bed Gretchen got to do one of her new favorite things which is to sit outside and read (because it is light until after 10 pm).  While she was sitting there she heard noises and right in front of her were 4 deer (probably the same from this morning). As you may have seen in an earlier picture we have this dirt mound in the middle of the driveway. Well one of the deer decided to be on top and eat the grass. The other one just wandered around close to the house.  In order to feed the family I think Gretchen is going to have to start carrying her bow and arrows to take advantage of such moments.
